Notes;
It is essential to take detailed
comprehensive notes on every
instrument. Carefully record work
done and measurements, on every aspect of arching profiles, thicknessing, setting up, varnishing and anything I didn't think important!

In the photo, records of 100 instruments.

I have a unique method of making the purfling channel and purfling
to provide the platform for the distinctive roll edge that I achieve.

I always set the instruments up in the white and play them;
If I am not happy with any aspect of the sound or sensation
I will fine tune them until I am, (this may take several
weeks on an off). Then they are ready for varnishing.

.

Varnishing is very challenging; Always referring to previous batches,
I aim to produce rich amber shades (from golden yellow to old
mahogany) with the figure of the wood clearly showing through. Applying the oil varnish can be demanding, I like to do this early in the morning 5.00 am shortly after rising to guarantee not being disturbed.

Black tooth;
With the violin bridges I put
an ebony insert under the
e string. This is a sounder way
of preventing the cutting in.
